In the dream I was praying for a whale –

I have no idea why, but

in the dream I believed in a God that answers prayers.

‘Just give me a whale!’ I cried to the sky.

‘Please!’

In the dream I was looking down upon water that was not whale-water,

not the wild wide ocean, but a narrow city river fringed with wrought-iron railings and

people walking by.

In the dream I was people walking by.

I was both the sky and the cry.

In the dream I was a narrow city river.

I was a God that answers prayers –

In the dream I was the whale, my whale, moving slow below my water’s skin.
