I remember: reflections on writing

I remember the ice-cream man, tinkling Greensleeves up and down the street.

I remember he sold other things too: grown-up things that he kept under the counter.

I remember Screwballs with the ice-cold bubbly at the bottom.

I remember Rocket lollies and Fabs.

I remember jam butties.

I remember strawberry milkshake.

I remember bags of toffees from Jack’s.

I remember rainbow kaylie and inky Spanish.

I remember little bottles of warm milk at playtime.

I remember the pop man and the bottles of green, yellow and orange fizz we bought from the back of his van.

I remember Dandelion and Burdock and Sarsaparilla.

I remember Corporation Pop, fresh from the tap.
